Every two to three days I have a new colour on. I love choosing a colour based on how I’m feeling, or how I want to feel. It’s the simple pleasures.

I also love ice-cream.

This summertime I’ve combined both of my infatuations and have only been wearing creamy pastel lacquers. It’s been great! Even if I’ve been stuck inside or have been doing unexciting activities (chores, losing at Texas Hold ‘Em poker, sit-ups), a glimpse at my nails and I’m instantly away on Viola, my lavender coloured bicycle. I understand pastels aren’t everyone’s thing, but you only get Summer to play with them, and I assure you, they are delicious.

I’m getting tired of the top-buns I’ve been sporting lately and although I can do heaps of cute hairstyles, I never really bother on myself. I’m really loving Surf Spray because all you have to do to get beach waves (sans swim and frizz) is spray a teeny bit on, scrunch sections with your hands, shake your head and either give it a quick (cool) blowdry or go for a walk in the wind. My hair is thick, long, and quite straight so if products work on my hair they generally work on everybody else’s! And to save one of the most exciting (dorkiest) things to last…. the bottle is made of Scuba suit material!!

On Friday I did the Bebe Winter 2010 Lookbook. Winter, already!?! There were two looks, one very Sienna Miller/Mary-Kate Olsen ‘It-girl’-esque smokey eye combined with Erin Wasson messy hair, and the other a natural, young pretty thing (above). I was pleased with the makeup, but totally thrilled with the hair. A little Luella Spring 2010 and a touch of Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 et voila!

And speaking of Louis Vuitton Fall 2009, yesterday at the Grace & Hart Winter Lookbook shoot we couldn’t help but be inspired by those bunny ears..

We made our own ears with feather-pompoms! I don’t know if the label will be keen on this look, but I think it’s gorgeous! And definitely wearable. (Sorry about the dodgy quality of the picture, I forgot and had to take a photo of the computer screen… Whoops!) There were also two makeup looks for this shoot, a soft winter look (above) and striking Italian femme (below) to go with the glamourous party dresses.

A slight tan, strong brows and Nars lipstick in “Scarlett Empress”, and here she is, ready for a Roman Holiday! I can’t wait to see the final pictures, much much better than those taken by my iPhone!

Starting with the ever popular rock chic look, dark smokey eyes were sported at Nina Ricci and Lanvin.

Nina Ricci’s girl was quite angelic but with a darker side. Beautifully glowing skin (mix in a little Giorgio Armani ‘Fluid Sheer #2′ with your foundation) and a lined top lid (MAC ‘Fluidline’ in Blacktrack – see this post for hints) achieve that angelic aspect, now, just add a touch of golden brown shadow or cream to the inners of the eyes for a dramatic effect (but one that isn’t too harsh). If you want you can use a brush but it’s up to you! On my eyes I like messily rubbing in shadows for a grungier look.

Speaking of dark and grungy, Lanvin (above) rocked it! Once again, a clean, glossy palette (foundation and ‘Fluid Sheer’ on the skin) was the base for a tough, dirty eye. Apply the black shadow in whatever shape you like and to make it really rock, dab a tiny amount of Paw Paw ointment (or any clear eyegloss) in the centres of your lids, smudge it a tad with a cotton tip, and voila! Using Paw Paw ointment (or clear eyegloss) will make your lids super shiny but can become super messy around your eyes (especially if you’ve got a long fringe). So if you want to rock this look make sure you’re willing to do touchups every few hours. Just take some cotton tips in your makeup purse and wipe the build up from the inners of your eyes and any fall down. And don’t forget, make sure you put on lots of black mascara!

Another fun, Spring-friendly makeup look was seen at Gaspard Yurkievich. Models’ right eyes and cheekbones were sprinkled with gold glitter. Maybe so not good for days spent doing chores, but for a girly night out or special occasion this could be quite fun! Use any colour and pick a nice complimenting lipstick and you’re ready to go! I recommend the Ben Nye glitters, they’re affordable and designed to be used on the face so are superfine so it’s okay if it goes into your eye. There’s no need to use glue, just press the glitter onto your face with your fingertips. Who knew it was so easy to sparkle! Isn’t that what every girl wants?

You know that the Mod inside of you can’t wait to wear this half-moon look as seen at Junya Wantanabe. Sometimes I see makeup looks on the catwalk and wish I had come up with them. This is one of them. It’s simple but so cool!

And I couldn’t talk about pretty makeup looks without mentioning the beautiful faces at Christian Dior. Inspired by Lauren Bacall, the look was updated with vibrant hues on the lids. The purple-blue (above) and light-orange (below) are colours most girls generally wouldn’t consider, but pared with a red lip (my favourite is Bobbi Brown ‘Lip Color Red 10′), it’s insatiable!

My favourite makeup look of the day… WHAT A SURPRISE! Haha, those lashes are just awesome! I’ve just read here that the above label, PPQ, are collaborating with Shu Uemura and the lashes will be in store in February 2010. How exciting! To get the rest of this look, Nars ‘Desire’ is the perfect pink blush and any babydoll pink lipstick will do, lightly pressed onto the lips with a finger.

Here at Ashish it’s time to party! The only makeup look that could live up to such a vibrant, sequined frock is but of course, the red lip. And a very full one at that! So get out your sharpener, create a full lip shape with your trusty red pencil, and then apply a generous amount of MAC’s ‘Lady Danger’, a bright coral-red.

And I just had to include the look from my favourite collection of the day, at Mark Fast. The Canadian-born designer creates these beautiful, and very sexy, knitted dresses that are definitely worth checking out. The look to go with his varied palette was quite simple. A dusting of lilac eyeshadow in the inner Vs of the eyes and a directional brow (done with a sharp brow pencil or a powder and an angle brush). It’s really quick and easy to do, and is just that little bit different. Definitely something I’m going to try when next I go out!

The girls at Vera Wang were given an unstructured, somewhat messy hair-do with dominant brows to compliment the beautifully romantic clothes. The makeup look was so clean and pretty with only a touch of mascara and some darker brows drawn on. As the brows are quite full and smooth (ie not angular nor rounded) it gives the face a really womanly feel. It’s so easy to do, just get a brow pencil in a shade darker than your hair or a powder in a shade darker and use an angle brush (MAC #236) to apply the colour and play! It really is quite amazing what different brow shapes do for your face!

Marc Jacobs is at it again! Yesterday he showed his signature line and today it’s his younger, less expensive line, Marc by Marc Jacobs. I love it! It’s so much fun and a great take on Spring.

The makeup is so perfectly youthful. A quick dusting of pink on the cheeks (a great one for this look would be Desire by Nars – so very pink pink pink!) and raspberry lips in a cute and quirky shape. Get the shape by drawing on and colouring in lips with a pencil (focus on creating a dramatic cupids bow), adding lipstick and using concealer to hide the parts of your lips that arent now raspberry!

And Rodarte. *ahhhh* I always sigh a thousand sighs over their collections. The Mulleavy sisters’ collections are always so fantastical and otherworldly. It excites me so much! I just read on Style.com that they studied Art History too… I guess there’s still hope for me to become an amazing designer too! haha!

I love how their shows are always so visually stimulating and detailed. From the black grit on the runway and the dry ice, to the netting over the messy hair and the body armour (art), it all really brings the clothing to life.

The makeup is not the most transferable to reality, but who cares! Just observe and enjoy!

Donna Karan had that same beachy face from Lacoste, but placed special emphasis on the eyes by using a white pencil to create a little flick. The one I use is the Giorgio Armani ‘Smooth Silk Eye Pencil’ although you can use any to get this look. Just make sure you try it on your hand before you purchase it, just to check that it has staying power. Also, use that Strobe Cream down the neck, on the collarbones, shoulders and chest for a super sleek look.

A really beautiful look from Day 5 was that at Carolina Herrera. The same colours from Rag & Bone were used here but much more subtly. Taupe seems to be the hottest colour of the moment for doubling up on contouring (under the cheekbone) and for use on the eye. And that lipcolour! That lipcolour! Who are you?

Oh Marc! Marc Jacobs. What a dude! I think this makeup is awesome! Probably best left on the catwalk, but those eyes, you could definitely rock them at night. And the lips, I love that the bottom lip is one shade lighter than the top! They’re totally impossible to wear out (unless you don’t talk, eat, drink, press lips together etc… Trust me i’ve tried..) but it’s these small details that make makeup exciting! And fun! And it’s there to have fun with and not be taken seriously!

So go and try something new next time youre heading out!

This look here at Rebecca Taylor isn’t anything new, but i really wanted to tell you about my current favourite lipcolour, which of course happens to be orange. For the past few seasons everyone has been using MAC lipstick in Morange, but the MAC Cream Colour Base in Orange Alarm is actually where it’s at. It just has this awesome staying power and because of the intensity makes your teeth look really white. Bonus! ps. How cute are those sunnies?

The next look here is at DKNY. Go on.. try some new mascara colours! YSL just brought out a mascara in “Sublime Grey”. Grey! People! Grey Mascara! (Refer to previous post about my favourite colours and the excitement will make sense..)

And very excitedly, IT-boy Alexander Wang’s collection. It was very athletic (hence the old timey Gridiron helmet – i think?), very tonal and very chic. The hair.. I looovvvee the hair, so easy to work into real life. The makeup however, didnt really do it for me. It just synced in nicely with the collection (which is totally fine and makes the show all about the clothes) as opposed to lifting the collection. My favourite thing on the face though, was the attention to detail on the brows. Very cute!

As the outfits were all bright and colourblocked at Lacoste (above), the makeup was exceedingly minimal. A clean face with moisturiser, a dab of concealer under the eyes (and on spots if necessary) and a row of black false lashes. The look was then completed with clear lipgloss and a highlighter on the cheeks and temples. My favourite highlighter to use for this wet, fresh-out-of-the-swimming-pool look is the MAC Strobe lotion. Lots of the other popular highlighters, like Armani’s and Becca’s, have a rather creamy, dewy effect, but because of the pearlised sheen of the Strobe Lotion the skin is more beachy.

My favourite look of the day is above by Rag & Bone. For me, both their mens and womens wear collections can always do no wrong, and the cool tones they used for this season are my all time favourite colours. I really like how the makeup look is quite dramatic, but is still suitable for Spring. The lipcolour is one I need to get my hands on. It seems to be a light, mauve-taupe. I’ll do some hunting and let you know when I find a good one!

Another top look of the week so far is the Erin Wasson x RVCA girl (as seen above). She is very beachy, rocker-chic. This look is so easy but so so sexy. All you need to do is bronze up, give your cheeks a light flush and your lips a sheer pink gloss. For eyes, just line them with a black pencil and use your finger to smudge on a light brown or taupe over your lids and up to your brows, and then use a brush to work the colour under your eyes. It’s all about being carefree so there’s no need to take too much time in doing it. And finally, make sure your hair compliments your makeup. You definitely need a loose, tousled look, so either go a swim in the ocean before you apply your makeup or use a sea spray on your hair (such as the Bumble & Bumble one) and let it dry naturally.
