So I’m growing out my fringe. For most of winter I had a Bettie Page-esque short fringe so I played a lot with my brows and bold lips.

(Pic of Bettie from Wiki)

But after trimming my fringe every week (my hair grows really fast), I’m a bit over it. It’s perfect timing though, I’ve been in a really dreamy space listening to lots of Au Revoir Simone, Beach House, Best Coast, Dum Dum Girls, Marissa Nadler and as always, Dead Meadow, The Warlocks, and so on. So I figure a nice, long, relaxed fringe, kinda in my eyes, would be quite apt.

I’ve turned to one of the most gorgeous French women, Francoise Hardy, for inspiration. I was first blown away by this pic:

Her really carefree hair and those black cat eyes!! *ahhh* And then I went to her website and couldn’t stop myself from going through (and adoring) all of her photos from the 60s, and, and… Watch out black liquid liner, here I come!

(pics from www.francoise-hardy.com)

My all-time two favourites, both of which achieve different results and are totally unsurpassable, are the Bourjois “Liner Clubbing – Ultra Resistance” liquid in Absolute Black and MAC “Fluidline” in Blacktrack.

The Bourjois one is a liquid that dries quickly and doesn’t budge. It’s perfect for slim lines and little flicks. And is best applied with patience and by drawing little dashes along your lashline to create a full line instead of drawing the line in one go. That NEVER works, trust me.

The MAC one is fantastic for achieving a thicker, more dramatic eye (such as the design Francoise is wearing in the first pic). “Fluidline” is a gel-cream that is best applied with a slim, small angled brush (MAC #236) and for the finest of points and sharpest corners a tiny brush with a few short hairs (MAC #210) will do the trick.

If you really wanna make the Francoise-eye your signature, I recommend taking the time to do every morning for one to two weeks (with remover and cotton tips on hand), and then after that it’ll be a breeze!

Alright, now my look is ready for Paris, I just need to start saving!

bisous!

I’m Anni. I’m a freelance hair and makeup artist based in Sydney, Australia.

I’m obsessed with my google reader. Obsessed!

I majored in Art History & Theory and Performance Studies at USYD. So I adore art. And am constantly in my own world pondering beauty. And colour. And the perceptions of both of these.

Oh, and fashion! And the whole concept of it. And style too, I guess.

I’m the kind of person that gets really excited about things and blurts out everything at once and lets you figure out what I’m trying to say. *Phewff* It’s a terrible habit, but there’s just too much going on!

So as you can imagine, I’m the kind of person that doesn’t stop. If I’m not working on my makeup portfolio, I’m taking photos with my dad’s Nikon F2AS from the 70s, discovering new music, going to gigs, hanging out with my hilarious friends, and then pretty much searching everywhere for inspiration. Inspiration for what? The countless projects I have on the go!

Such as this one! This is my beauty blog. And an accessible one at that. To begin with, I never read beauty articles coz I cant handle the writing. All the alliteration and cheesy rhyming! A daggy title here and there is fine, but seriously! Also, when I do read the articles, I feel like they are so unrealistic. Like, sleep 9 hours a night between the hours of 10pm and 7am, don’t drink, don’t eat sugar, buy a really expensive eye cream, and so on.

So I’m going to make this a blog for people that exist in real time. Like I do. People who enjoy going out, dancing, drinking, staying up late streaming the latest episode of the hottest HBO series, and who deal with the extra pimples in the morning. Concealer anyone?! I think I’ll also put up a few fashion pics too. Favorite products. Cute animal pics. Recipes. New music. And some behind the scenes photos from my shoots. They all go hand-in-hand… well… we’ll see what happens!

Enjoy! xx
