PERFECT SKIN

Sigrid Agren by Aitken Jolly for Dansk A/W 2011

For me, this is perfect skin. Fresh, slightly dewy, not packed with makeup and none of this photoshop business - just real, pores and all. I’m the biggest advocate in letting your skin breathe, and you know what, it’s not going anywhere so it’s super important to embrace it and make the most of it. I go makeup-free (foundation & concealer especially) on weekends (parties & fancy dinners excluded), the days I’m working from home, on photoshoots, at family dinners & get-togethers with friends, at the gym, supermarket, window shopping and… I think you get my gist. Basically, anytime when I’m not at an event or in the office. Above is my default (skin) look – here are the two steps to getting glowing skin…

Step 1: Exfoliate.

I’ve just tried Grown’s Facial Exfoliant with Peppermint, Jojoba Micro Bead and Juniper Berry and I give it two very enthusiastic thumbs up. I find lots of exfoliants dry out my skin (très annoying) but this one was gentle and surprisingly soothing. Also, with no petrochemicals, animal derivatives, silicones, parabens etc etc, how can you go wrong?!

Step 2: Apply oils.

For a divine glow and hyper moisturisation, massage a facial oil onto clean skin. For normal to dry skin, try Clarins’ Orchidèe Bleue Face Treatment Oil, for very dry skin try Ren’s Rose O12 Moisture Defence Serum, and for those with combination or oily skin, use a toner post-cleansing (such as this one) and Jurlique’s amazing Herbal Recovery Gel. Make sure to warm up the oils in the palms of your hand and press lightly into skin, and if you’re planning on heading outside, don’t forget that sunscreen (applied under the oil).

Now take off that foundation and get even more gorgeous!

xx

THE BEST THING…

…since Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation is British department store Selfridge’s beauty advent calendar. OH MY GOSH. A new product every day – what a genius idea!

This is last year’s….

and here Brit blogger Disney Roller Girl shows us what’s inside this year’s.

Come on David Jones, it’s time to pick up your act!

PLAITS IT!

Aline Weber shot by Camilla Akrans for Vogue Japan August 2011

I chopped off my long mermaid locks last week and I already miss doing this to my hair. If you have lovely long locks, please Heidi-it on up for me. Cheers!

Say hello to my new cut.

FISHTAIL BRAID

Image by Daniel Gurton for Vs. Magazine

I love love love this relaxed fishtail braid, it’s by far my favourite hairstyle of the moment. Best done on dirty, piece-y hair, head to youtube for a tutorial and make sure to use a clear elastic for a chic finish. Flowers optional.

HIRSCHY H @ PRISCILLAS

A test I did recently with Bowen, Paloma and James. What do you think?

On Hirschy’s eyes I’ve worked the dark green and grey from Chanel’s limited edition Les 4 Ombres in Lilium heavily into the socket and brows, and have contoured under her cheekbones with Nars’ The Multiple in Portofino. I hope you like!

THE BEST BODY LOTIONS

Sasha Pivovarova shot by Hedi Slimane for Vogue Japan August 2011

For luxe photo shoot legs, there are three lotions I’ve seen on set for as long as I can remember (and I’ve been going on shoots for about ten years now!).

In any makeup artist’s kit you’ll see at least one of the following… Kiehl’s Creme de Corps, Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Body Gloss. They’re all super moisturising, leave a fresh-looking glow and are not sticky or oily.

My tip for extra-extra glossy, beach-worthy legs: Mix three parts moisturiser and one part of Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in your colour of choice. And don’t be shy ladies, slather it on!

SONG FOR THE MUTE 2012 S/S

Remember these gorgeous shots? Well Lyna and Melvin from Song For The Mute have just finished their follow-up collection and (even though I’m totally biased) I have to say it’s as great as the last! We shot Jordan Coulter of DSquared2 fame in a spectacular location near Newcastle and I just can’t get enough of the images. Simply stunning. Here are a few of my faves, you can check out the rest on The Fashionisto.

Enjoy!

VOGUE HAIR HOW-TO #2

Kelsey/Priscillas shot by Bowen Arico for Vogue.com.au

My second hair tutorial for Vogue online featuring the gorgeous Kelsey Martinovich. Look familiar? Yep, she was one of the winners from last season’s Australia’s Next Top Model. We had a great arvo playing with makeup from Mecca Cosmetica and learning how-to do this runway-worthy topknot. Check out the six easy steps here.

Ps. my number one tip for a successful topknot, make sure to backcomb like there’s no tomorrow. Good luck!

FLUFFY CHIC?

Lara Stone shot by Alasdair McLellan for Self Service S/S 2011.

I think only two people in this world could pull off this do – Lara Stone and Chloe Sevigney. I really love it though, it’s just super cute and fluffy!

ps. How great is Lara with dark brows??!

SUMMER LOVIN’

I know I’ve posted about this body lotion before but I have to tell you how much it’s saving my life right now. Basically, it’s cold, miserable, and I have long steamy hot showers even though I shouldn’t so my skin is super dry. Also, I’ve been craving summer and am doing my best to pretend it’s here. I currently have a coral orange pedicure, Chanel’s Riva (a pastel blue) on my tips, have been eyeing off raffia, have only been wearing Repettos (brr!), and devouring Tommy Ton’s sunny Mens Fashion Week images.

Thank heavens for Kai’s Body Lotion! It smells like Hawaii (it’s packed with gardenia) and moisturises like no other. It contains safflower seed oil, shea butter, apricot kernel oil, cucumber fruit extract and is not greasy in the slightest. As long as I don’t run out in the next two months, I think I will survive!

PERIDOT

Monsieur Philips, you’ve done it again! I cannot wait for this colour to come out – it’s a little Proenza, a little Rodarte and a whole lotta Klimt.

VOGUE HAIR HOW-TO

Courtney/Priscillas shot by Bowen Arico for Vogue.com.au

If you’ve looked on Vogue.com.au lately you will have seen some changes in the beauty department. Firstly, we’re doing a Beauty Icons section, starting off with Miss Jerry Hall. One of my all-time favourites, she’s absolutely stunning and I reckon she would be a pretty fun mum. Just a side note, how hilarious would her name have been if she married Brian Ferry!?… Jerry Ferry, alas! Anyways, back to the post… We’re also doing hair tutorials, which, if you know me well or have been reading Liner Notes for a while, you’ll know that all I think about is hair. What a perfect fit! So here, I present to you, Vogue.com.au’s first hair tutorial. Thank you to my friends Bowen Arico, Paloma Rose Garcia and Harriet Read for doing such a great job!

SUPER by Dr Nicholas Perricone

The newest addition to my bathroom benchtop. SUPER by Dr Nicholas Perricone First Blush Brightening Serum from Kit Cosmetics. The Melon extract protect cells, Vitamin C reduces discolouration (yes!) and Ferulic Acid minimises redness. Pretty good hey? Also, it’s free of parabens, silicones, mineral oils, dyes, and more.

Gotta love this brightening business!

SODASHI EYE MASK

Carine Roitfeld shot by Terry Richardson

Welcome to heaven.

Eye masks are few and far between which means that fab ones are a true rarity. After solid testing, Sodashi’s Eye Mask makes ageing around the eye area not so daunting after all. Filled with macadamia oil, apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil along with a plethora of other delights, it nourishes, firms and leaves the eye area feeling as smooth as a baby’s bottom. Seriously! I’m that impressed with this treatment (you leave it around the eyes for 10 to 20 minutes each week), I’ll definitely be recommending it to all of the women (and men) I know with mature skin. It’s also chemical free and made in Australia, what more could you want?

Sodashi Eye Mask, $124.

TUMBLR

I’ve gone Tumblr crazy!

I started a tumblr over a year ago as a place to have my favourite short films in one spot, and now, well, I’ve gotten carried away these past few days. Bright colours! The latest products! My favourite fashions! All here at ShortFilmsAndPrettyPictures.

Do you tumble? Come and say hello!
